Accessibility Statement
Most of the people who use this website are older adults, or family members reading it late at night on a phone. Some use a screen reader, larger text, or a keyboard instead of a mouse. Accessibility is a functional requirement of this site, not a badge on it.
The standard we are working toward
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.2, Level AA. That is our target and the standard the site is designed and tested against as pages are added.
We are not claiming a conformance level. This website has not yet been through a formal independent accessibility audit, so saying it conforms would be a claim we cannot stand behind. We would rather tell you what we have actually done, tell you what we know is still open, and fix what you find.
What is built into this site
- A skip link at the top of every page so keyboard and screen reader users can jump straight to the main content or the footer.
- Headings, lists, and landmarks marked up as real structure, so a screen reader can announce and navigate them rather than reading a wall of text.
- Text alternatives on images, and images that carry no information marked so they are skipped rather than described.
- Color contrast chosen for reading at sixty-five and beyond, and never color on its own to carry meaning.
- A layout that works on a phone or tablet, with tap targets large enough to hit reliably.
- Text that stays readable when you enlarge it in your browser.
- Form fields with visible labels, plain instructions, and error messages that say what to do next.
- The page language declared in the code, so screen readers pronounce the words correctly.
Tell us when something does not work
If a page is hard to read, a form will not accept your answer, or your screen reader loses its place, we want to hear about it. Tell us the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what device or assistive technology you were using, and we will work on it.

Another way to get the same information
Nothing on this website is only available on this website. If a page is not working for you, call us and we will read it to you, answer the question directly, or send the same information by post. You should never have to fight a web page to reach us.
Ongoing work
Accessibility is not a task that finishes. As pages are added and content changes, we check the new work against the same standard, and we update this page when something meaningful changes about what the site can do.
