Medical Agent · Pierce, Kitsap, and North Thurston Counties, WA

A Medical Agent who makes the choices you would make for yourself

When someone needs a Medical Agent named on their Power of Attorney and has no appropriate family member to serve, we can step into that role, with Amby named personally as the agent.

A board-certified nurse who makes medically informed decisions in line with the person’s own values and wishes, not our own.

  • Led by a board-certified gerontological nurse

  • Someone who knows your wishes

  • Named on your Power of Attorney

The Difference

Why acting as an agent is different from advising

Most of our work is guidance: we assess, we explain options, we recommend. Serving as your Medical Agent is different in kind, not just in degree.

To decide as you would, we have to know you well. That knowledge is the foundation the role rests on.

What we have to know

Your beliefs

Your goals

What a good day looks like to you

Exactly whom you want us to talk with and keep informed

The Role

What a Medical Agent does

A Medical Agent acts as your legal voice to interpret your wishes, access your medical records, and make critical healthcare decisions if you become unable to speak for yourself. This includes the authority to approve or refuse treatments, choose care facilities, and manage end-of-life care in consultation with your doctors. It is one of the most trusting roles you can hand to anyone. We act only as Medical Agent. We do not act as a financial agent.

01

Honors your wishes about treatment

When you cannot speak for yourself, your agent approves or refuses treatments the way you would, based on what you have told us matters to you.

02

Weighs the options a doctor presents

Care rarely comes down to one clear answer. Your agent considers each path against what you would want.

03

Speaks for you at the moments that matter most

In the hospital room and at the care conference, your agent is your voice.

We take that role the way it is meant to be taken: as a promise to honor who you are, what you believe, and how you want to live and be cared for.

Who This Is For

For people who do not have the right person to speak for them

People with no suitable family member to serve

Family may be far away, no longer involved, or simply not the right fit for a decision this weighty. A nurse who already knows the medical picture can carry it.

Single people planning ahead

Aging without a spouse or children to name does not have to mean going without an agent. Put a capable, clinically trained agent in place now, while you are well.

Families arranging for a loved one

When a mother or father has no one appropriate to name, we can serve as the named agent on their behalf.

Our Vetting Process

A selective service, taken on carefully

We do not accept every request to serve as Medical Agent. Before we say yes, three things have to be in place.

01

A real relationship, built while you are well

A relationship like this takes time. It is established while you are of sound mind, not in the middle of a crisis.

02

Thorough conversations about the what ifs

We talk through the situations that are hard to imagine before they arrive, so that a decision made later is one you already made.

03

Careful documentation of everything you tell us

Everything we learn about what matters to you is written down and kept current.
